Does the post of Lord Indra as the king of Swarg is permanent ie the same purush(Indra Bhagwan) is holding it?windows media center

No, It is not permanent.

Etymologically, the word Indra seems to have been derived from the Sanskrit verb 鈥榠nd鈥? meaning to be powerful, to tear enemies asunder. Some others opine it is derived from the root verb 鈥榠n鈥?which means to be able, strong energetic. Either way, Indra is the Man for all seasons.

Indra, the son of Kasyapa, who himself was the grandsom of Brahma, occupied the most eminent place in the early stages of Hinduism. Much later other Gods were either equated to him in strength and valour or placed above him in hierarchy. Indra seems to have been born strong. While there is no clear story on how Indra became the King of heavens, there are many stories on his rule and his bravery. In fact some scholars classify Indra as a translucent deity for he refuses to reveal his origin. He had two vehicles: Airavata, the famous elephant which was white in colour and Uccaisravas, the horse.

In the Rig veda, Indra is described as the 鈥榰pholder of men鈥? This epithet for him is said to occur nine times, thus establishing his supreme status. Of all the Rig vedic deities, Indra is the one most fully anthropomorphic. Indra has a relationship with almost every other God.

Vishnu visits Indra's palace in the form of a brahmin boy; Indra welcomes him in. Vishnu praises Indra's palace, casually adding that no former Indra had succeeded in building such a palace. At first, Indra is amused by the brahmin boy's claim to know of former Indras. But the amusement turns to horror as the boy tells about Indras ancestors, about the great cycles of creation and destruction, and even about the infinite number of worlds scattered through the void, each with its own Indra. The boy claims to have seen them all. During the boy's speech, a procession of ants had entered the hall. The boy saw the ants and laughed. Finally humbled, Indra asks the boy why he laughed. The boy reveals that the ants are all former Indras.

Another visitor enters the hall. He is Shiva, in the form of a hermit. On his chest lies a circular cluster of hairs, intact at the circumference but with a gap in the middle. Shiva reveals that each of these chest hairs corresponds to the life of one Indra. Each time a hair falls, one Indra dies and another replaces him.

No longer interested in wealth and honor, Indra rewards Vishvakarma and releases him from any further work on the palace. Indra himself decides to leave his life of luxury to become a hermit and seek wisdom. Horrified, Indra's wife Shachi asks the priest Brihaspati to change her husband's mind. He teaches Indra to see the virtues of both the spiritual life and the worldly life. Thus, at the end of the story, Indra learns how to pursue wisdom while still fulfilling his kingly duties.

Every Manvantara has a different Indra. The list is according to Vishnu Purana(Chapters 3.1 and 3.2):

Yajna (Avatar of Vishnu)

Vipaschit

Sushaanti

Shibi

Vibhu

Manojav

Purandar (the present Indra)

Bali

Adbhut

Shanti

Vish

Ritudhaama

Devaspati

Suchi

Does the post of Lord Indra as the king of Swarg is permanent ie the same purush(Indra Bhagwan) is holding it?nintendo ds browser internet explorer

All reside in your mind ; it is upto you to place them wherever you want
swarg and narak do not exists do not dream about them.
No.Indra is not a name of God but the name pof position of a god. After his tenure Indra has to leave his post .So too Brahma after Kalpaantam.A new Brahma will come.A new Indra will come.
May be True story Once INdira came to Earth to have SEX with rishipatni -Akalya-%26amp; caught red-handed by her husband-GAUTHAMA- Indira's body was cursed by Rishi to become 1000 YONIS %26amp; it happened .Later Narada helped him.

PRALAYA is not total destruction. Entire universe is TRANSFORMED incl. Sun%26amp; Moon. Only GOD is permanent.
Indra is the soul having the greatest stock of punya to his credit. When a soul having greater stock of punya than the one in throne arrives, the older one has to automatically make way for the new fellow. That is what Hindu Philosophy says. After one has enjoyed the fruits of Heaven and exhausted his stock of punya, he has to come back to this earth.

Dont expect all answers to be conveyed to you by the written word. Beyond a point you have to experience things in your soul in various levels of meditation. Bookish knowledge is nothing but a, b, c of philosophy and spiritualism. They only serve to prepare the ground for actual realisation at the feets of a Master. Better search for a Master. If you do not find one, pray fervently to God, with tears in your eyes. God will arrange as he has done for me and so many others. Bookish knowledge will not take you anywhere. Do something before your hour of departure from this body arrives. Because at that time you will have nothing but tears of regret and remorse in your eyes and heart. And you will have lost a great opportunity of knowing the ultimate and releasing yourself from the bondage of birth, death, and rebirth cycle. My best wishes.
Indra is the name given to God who is occupying the position in Indra Sabha in Amaravathi - The capital city of the Gods.

This is a position like the President Position in the Country.

The Indras are elected by the other gods by some voting system.

The most powerful person is assigned the position of Indra.

He then performs the duties as suited to Protect the Heaven, the Indra Sabha and the other Gods who are a part of the Indra Sabha.
You are in a hurry to ask questions as if the question is of any importance. This state is known of a hyper.

How to reply to your question when it is a fact that the Indra is not the personality but the name of a post. The king of heavens is known as Indra and the personality changes from time to time.

Please don't ask stupid questions.

Or you will continue asking? Why should you care for me!
Indhra, the king of Deva, is occupying the Indra loka based on the Tapas performed by him. It is not a fixed tenure. If somebody else does Tapas exceeding the merit of Indra, He will occupy the post. Hence Indra is also subject to the curses of Rishis. Also whenever any body practices intense tapas, Indra send all his deputies including apsaras, gandharvas, Urvasi and Tilottama to spoil the Tapas. Indra fears that if one performs greater Tapas than him, they will gain the Indra loka and become the king of Devas. When pralaya happens, everything is destroyed sans Maha Vishnu who lay as a child on the leave of peepal tree. Once pralaya subsides, the creation commences after many years of gap.
Vishnu promised King Bali the boon that he would become Indra during the next great Epoch, because he willingly gifted the universe back to Vishnu in his manifestation as Vamana the Dwarf. thus the "post" of Indra is not permanent, but is filled by successors over the ages that pass.
ARE YOU PLANNING TO TAKE OVER HIS KINGDOM IN SWARGA ? HOLD ON TILL OUR LAST DAY......MAY BE I WILL JOIN U TOO.....
Not permanent but transient functionality as per all versions of theological schools of Hinduism. The transcendental is only Brahman in modulus .
Indra is a post occupied by different souls
Indra is the leader for the devas. Devendra is the name of the post of leading the Devas and not the person. The Deva we find is the Lord of Water. U can find his Name in Bagavatham. He ruled the city of Amaravathi, not Swarga.

Any one who performs a hundred ashwamedha yaga, and after defeating the current Devendra is supposed to get the post next.

We can find that MahaBali Chakravarthi did 99 yagas but was stopped from doing the 100th.

Rishabadeva Did 100. But during the Last Havan of the 100th, He was stopped by Brahma.
